Lower Limb Injury Research AT ASRI

Several studies have shown that Females are highly vulnerable to lower extremity injuries. Over half the Female Lower Extremity injuries are to the foot/ankle region.  This suggests the need to immediately address foot/ankle injuries in the existing frontal NCAP test. This could be done by penalizing vehicles with foot accelerations that produce greater than 10% injury risk. Brake pedals that rapidly intrude during a crash may be responsible for the higher frequency of right foot/ankle injuries suffered by drivers.  Brake intrusion should be controlled by safety standards.
